There are hardly any cricket commentators or presenters that match the energy levels of Ravi Shastri when he is with the captains at the toss. Rohit Sharma who was recently giving an interview reminiscing India’s T20 World Cup triumph in 2024 talked about a funny incident when Shastri was at the toss with Rohit and Pakistan’s captain Babar Azam.
Rohit Sharma talked about the incident when Shastri, who is known for his bold voice and energising tone, was at the toss introducing the two captains in the clash between India and Pakistan in New York. The Indian captain stated that he was so mesmerised in the moment that he even forgot that he had the coin for the toss and even the opposing captain was laughing hysterically at the moment.
“Look at Ravi Shastri, I’m enjoying that. In the middle of everything, Ravi Shastri’s energy, I forgot that the coin was with me. Even Babar Azam was laughing. In the blue, it’s Rohit Sharma, who’s ready to punch. In the green Babar’s ready to counter punch, it was all fun,” said Rohit during an interview with Jio Hotstar.
While talking about the epic clash between the two biggest cricket rivals India and Pakistan, Rohit talked about the grand celebration it feels like to be part of the match. Rohit expressed that he has played so many India-Pakistan matches in his 18-year professional career but the energy in the fans of both nations has always felt out of the world.
“As soon as we got near the stadium, it already felt like a celebration – Indian fans, Pakistani fans, all dancing and enjoying themselves. I’ve played so many India–Pakistan games now – I’ve lost count – but that pre-match energy, that feeling… It’s always something else. Nothing compares to it,” Sharma said.
