India scripted history at the Asian Squash Doubles Championships 2025 in Kuching, Malaysia, sweeping all three gold medals on offer in a dominant display that underlined the nation’s growing stature in the sport.
The Indian contingent’s clean sweep was led by Abhay Singh and Anahat Singh, who both clinched two titles each. The pair first combined forces in the mixed doubles final, defeating Malaysia’s Rachel Arnold and Ameeshenraj Chandaran in straight games, 11-9, 11-7, to secure the gold medal. The top-seeded Indian duo showcased remarkable composure, rallying from a 5-9 deficit in the opening game to win six consecutive points and take control of the match.
Abhay Singh then partnered with Velavan Senthilkumar to claim the men’s doubles crown, overcoming Pakistan’s Noor Zaman and Nasir Iqbal in a hard-fought three-game final. After dropping the first game 9-11, the Indian pair rebounded with two commanding wins, 11-5, 11-5, to seal the title in a contest that lasted 88 minutes. The victory was particularly significant, echoing the duo’s previous triumph over Pakistan in the 2023 Asian Games team final.
In the women’s doubles, Anahat Singh joined forces with veteran Joshna Chinappa for a dramatic victory over Malaysia’s Ainaa Amani and Yee Xin Ying. The Indian pair recovered from a set down to edge their opponents 8-11, 11-9, 11-10 in a tense 35-minute battle. Their resilience and tactical adjustments proved decisive in the nail-biting decider.
This unprecedented gold medal sweep is a testament to India’s depth and versatility in doubles squash, with both emerging talents and seasoned stars delivering under pressure. The results also serve as a strong statement ahead of future multi-sport events, positioning India as a formidable force in Asian squash.
