The rumours that have been surfacing for quite a while now have finally been confirmed as Rajkummar Rao has stated that he will be playing the role of Sourav Ganguly, one of the greatest captains of India. Rajkummar, who is one of the finest actors in the country, has been chosen as the lead in Ganguly’s biopic and the cricket captain has stated he couldn’t have asked for anyone better.
The actor was in an interview recently and was talking about his upcoming projects. He stated that as Ganguly has already made the news public he will confirm it now. Rajkummar said, “Now that Dada has already said it, let me also make it official – yes, I am playing him in his biopic.”
The National Award winning actor expressed that he is a bit nervous about playing the role of such a revered figure all around India. He thinks of it as a responsibility to do his best job playing the role of the legend who changed Indian cricket. The actor even showed off his Bengali speaking skills in the interview as he learned it from his wife, Patralekha through his year of marriage. He said, “I am nervous… It’s a huge responsibility, but it’s going to be a lot of fun.”
‘Dada’, as he is lovingly called, was asked for his opinion on Rajkummar being signed to play him in the movie. He stated, “I think the right person is doing it… I’ll help him with everything. Rajkummar has been locked for the film. I don’t think anyone else can play me better than him.”
It is being reported that the movie will be going on the floors in January next year and will be looking for a release at the end of the year in December. Ganguly will be closely involved in the creative process of the film project as it will highlight his journey from the streets of Kolkata to being named ‘Prince of Kolkata’.
