This Saturday, 21st June, the world celebrated the 11th International Day of Yoga. The District Administration of Reasi celebrated the occasion in a special way as they held a yoga session at the world’s highest railway bridge, the iconic Chenab Rail Bridge.

The session was attended by the officials from civil administration, Northern Railway, CRPF. Many residents, and yoga enthusiasts also joined in to celebrate the International Yoga Day. The participants performed various different asanas at the bridge while enjoying the scenic beauty of the Chenab valley.

The Chenab Rail Bridge is 359 metres above the river and stretches around 1,315 metres. It is a long steel arch bridge which is designed to withstand seismic and wind conditions. The bridge was inaugurated by PM Narendra Modi on June 9th this year. The bridge will work as a major cog in improving the connectivity between Jammu and Srinagar.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has been an ambassador of Yoga across the world, also participated in International Day of Yoga celebrations. He stated that Yoga is a way to connect to your inner self and achieve inner peace. He hailed it as a gift beyond age, one that moves past boundaries and helps in uniting all of humanity in health and harmony.

The 11th International Day of Yoga was celebrated throughout the country across all states with many people stepping up for participation. This year the theme for the event was “Yoga for One Earth, One Health”. The theme spoke aloud the vision of the country to spread global wellness and well-being of everyone. The theme shows the underlying connections that human health has with planetary health and derives its meaning from the Indian ethos of “Sarve Santu Niramaya” (May all be free from disease).
