There were 242 people on board in the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner that crashed just a few moments after taking off in Ahmedabad. Out of the total 242 people there was only one survivor from the tragic plane crash. It was a British-Indian national, 40-year-old Vishwash Kumar Ramesh who was seated on 11A and miraculously survived the crash.
Mr. Ramesh, a businessman based in the United Kingdom, was on the flight travelling back to London. He was alongside his brother seated on 11J who was not as fortunate as Ramesh and couldn’t survive the crash. It seemed a miracle to everyone when they saw Ramesh walking out of the plane all bruised and burned.
Mr. Ramesh talked to Doordarshan hours after Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited him at the Ahmedabad Civil Hospital to check on his condition. When he was asked what had happened and how he was able to survive, Ramesh recalled the horrific incidents. He recounted that the door near him might’ve broken in the crash. He thought he would die but when he found an opening he ran to save his life.
“Everything happened in front of my eyes. I thought I would die. The side where I was seated fell into the ground floor of the building. There was some space. When the door broke, I saw that space and I just jumped out. The door must’ve broken on impact. There was a wall on the opposite side, but near me, it was open. I ran. I don’t know how I came out of it alive.”
Ramesh added, “For a while, I thought I was about to die. But when I opened my eyes, I saw I was alive. And I opened my seat belt and got out of there. The airhostess and aunty uncle all died before my eyes.”
