The Colombian government recently expressed heartfelt condolences at the loss of lives in Pakistan after the air strikes by the Indian Military during Operation Sindoor. The Member of Parliament from the Congress party who is leading one of the delegations sent by the ruling government, Shashi Tharoor expressed his disappointment at the actions of the Colombian government.

Shashi Tharoor is leading the delegation alongside other MPs in several countries that include the United States, Panama, Guyana, Brazil and Colombia as of now. He expressed how disappointed he was that the Colombian government didn’t recognise the terrorist attacks on India and didn’t notice the sufferings of the Indians.

Tharoor said, “We were a little disappointed in the reaction of the Colombian government, which apparently expressed heartfelt condolences on the loss of lives in Pakistan after the Indian strikes, rather than sympathising with the victims of terrorism.”

The Congress MP stated that India didn’t attack first but was just retaliating to the attacks on its soil by the terrorists from across the border. He also extended a hand and expressed that he is open to talks with Colombia as they have also dealt with a fair share of terrorist attacks.

“We are only exercising our right of self-defence. We’re very happy to talk to Colombia in some detail about the circumstances. Just as Colombia has endured many terror attacks, so have we in India. We have endured a very large number of attacks for almost four decades,” he said.

Tharoor pointed out that Pakistan takes a healthy share of their defence equipment from China through the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. But India is not concerned with their deals as long as these deals are not used as a tool for terror against them. Tharoor stated, “Defence is a polite word, Pakistani military equipment. Much of it is not for defence but for attack. Our quarrel is with the perpetration of terror against us.”
