It is not often that you see a billionaire walking beside you, standing next to you in a queue to take tickets and traveling with you through public transport in India. But it was a different day for people in Bangalore as billionaire Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw decided to leave the comfort of her personal car and decided to take the Bangalore metro.
The founder of the Biocon Limited, Mazumdar shared her experience through her social media account and expressed how surprised she was with the efficiency of the metro. She also thanked the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation for helping her get through the notorious Bengaluru traffic and providing her a great ride.
On her X account, she wrote, “Took the purple line from Whitefield to Vidhana with my Namma Metro friend Jennifer Erich, the Iron Lady of Exxon Mobil. Such a quick way to avoid traffic. Great ride. Thanks BMRCL.”
Mrs. Shaw wasn’t travelling alone and was accompanied by her friend Jennifer Erich. Mrs. Shaw referred to her as the Iron Lady of Exxon Mobil. She called her that because she works as the Geoscience Manager at Exxon Mobil’s Bangalore Technology Centre.
Jennifer Erich also responded to her tweet and expressed how glad she was to introduce Namma metro to Kiran. Replying to Mrs. Shaw’s tweet, Jennifer wrote, “So happy to be your Metro Mentor!! Thanks so much for joining me at my office today.”
Netizens loved the approach of the billionaire and supported her in the effort she made. A user through his X account wrote, “Great! A society’s progress is measured when the Elite and powerful Like you take public transport for travel. Really commendable and exemplary.” Another user reminded of a quote from Gustavo Petro and wrote, “A developed country is not a place where the poor have cars. It’s where the rich use public transportation.”
