India is facing an emerging concern as Covid-19 cases are rising again. Cities like Delhi and Mumbai have had one of the most rapid rises in covid-19 cases in the past week with the national capital recording 99 new cases with 104 active cases in the region. India, currently has over 1000 cases of Covid -19 in India with 752 new cases emerging in the country recently.
As Delhi has been one of the most affected cities, the Chief Minister of the capital, Mrs. Rekha Gupta addressed the situation on Monday. She has stated that amidst the rising cases people should not panic as the region is well equipped medically to handle any surge in the number of cases.
Mrs. Gupta was at an event where she spoke to the reporters and said, “We have details of the Covid-19 cases. Our hospitals have all the facilities. We have also issued an advisory. We have analysed the scenario and there is no panic situation.”
As reported, most of the Sar-CoV-2 virus samples reported in India over the last couple of weeks were BA.2 and JN.1 variants but the reports also suggest that there were some cases of the NB.1.8.1 and LF.7 variants reported in India. The World Health Organisation however has marked them as ‘Variants under Monitoring’ but are not ‘Variants of Concern’. Doctors however have expressed precaution against these variants.
The emergence of these sub variants is connected to rising infections in various countries in Asia like Thailand, Hong Kong, Singapore and more. Thailand has faced the brunt of it as it has recorded over 50,000 cases of Covid-19 in one week.
The surge in current Covid-19 cases in India are limited to select states. As per the government, Kerala currently tops the chart with the highest number of active cases at 430. Other states with notable case counts include Maharashtra (209), Delhi (104), Gujarat (83), Karnataka (47), Uttar Pradesh (15), and West Bengal (12). With the surge in cases there have been seven deaths reported in the country so far with 4 of them being from Maharashtra while 2 have been from Kerala and 1 from Karnataka.
The studies have indicated that people should take proper precaution rather than just fearing the virus. People with higher Vitamin D levels have a lesser risk of acute respiratory diseases so maintain a healthy diet with proper vitamins and minerals. Also reduce stress in the body as it can also adversely affect your immune system.
