The recent policy has been introduced by the President of the United States, Donald Trump, restricting the enrollment of international students in Harvard University. This decision was highly condemned by the university itself who have stated clearly that they refuse to surrender their academic independence and they will refuse to bow down to this rule.
Aam Aadmi Party’s Member of Parliament, Raghav Chadha who is an alumnus of the famous Harvard University has also criticised this policy heavily. He spoke how Trump’s move can crush the dreams of international students who wish to enroll in the prestigious university.
Mr. Chadha took to his X handle and wrote, “President Trump’s recent move threatens the dreams and futures of international students at Harvard and beyond. As a proud member of the Harvard community, I wear my colours to show support for inclusion and academic freedom. I stand with Harvard and all international students whose dreams and futures are under threat. We must defend academic freedom and global collaboration.”
On the other side Harvard has also stood its ground and has said that it will not let academic freedom die down and will stand with everyone who has been impacted by this decision. The university has claimed that it is the federal government’s attempt to assert control over their curriculum, facility and their student body.
“Yesterday, the federal government announced that it has revoked Harvard’s certification under the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) and stripped the University of its authority to sponsor F- and J- visas for international students and scholars for the 2025-26 academic year. We condemn this unlawful and unwarranted action. It imperils the futures of thousands of students and scholars across Harvard and serves as a warning to countless others at colleges and universities throughout the country who have come to America to pursue their education and fulfil their dreams,” said Harvard management.
The US government has made its stance clear that enrolling foreign students is a luxury not a right and they are willing to revoke it. It has also accused the management of Harvard of turning a once great university into a hotbed of anti-American, anti-Semitic, pro-terrorist agitators. They have stated clearly that Harvard will face the consequences of not taking any actions against the problems that have impacted American students.
