The long ongoing protests of the workers of Samsung Electronics now seems to be settling down. It is being reported that the workers and the company have reached a pact on wage hikes, promotions and other incentives. The common agreement was reached after the Government of Tamil Nadu decided to intervene in the matter as the workers were protesting for a while.
Samsung, one of the market leaders in electronics, has agreed to give hikes and incentives over the period of three years. They have agreed to give a hike of a total of 18000 over the next three years out of which 9000 will be given in the year 2025-26 and for the next two years they will get a hike of 4500 each year. Along with that the workers will be provided a special pay of Rs. 1,000 to Rs. 4,000 across three years based on experience.
It was also said in the press release on Monday that along with these terms a special promotion will be given to any worker – operator or technician – who has worked with the company for 6 years and has not received any promotion as of 31st March 2025. In addition to that the workers will be provided with 5 bereavement leaves and 3 leaves for marriage. They have also increased paternity leaves from 3 days to 5 days.
They have changed the policy with the current 30 days that can be added to the annual leave account. It will now be increased to 90 days and the leave saved beyond 90 days will be converted into cash. The wedding gift to the workers will be increased to Rs 2000 by the company and the first two children of the workers will receive a Rs 2000 bonus.
Member of Tamil Nadu’s Legislative Assembly, TRB Rajaa took to his X handle and posted, “Happy to announce that after sustained dialogue and responsible discussions from all sides, all differences pertaining to the Samsung unit have been settled amicably.
