The Indian Navy’s Anti-Submarine Warfare Systems now seem to be in great hands. Adani Defence & Aerospace, the defence arm of Adani Enterprises has decided to collaborate with Sparton which is a company of Elbit system.

The companies have collaborated to develop the Anti-Submarine Warfare Systems. The partnership will see that the Sonobuoys and other Anti-Submarine Warfare Systems are assembled locally, falling under the Atma Nirbhar Bharat and the Make in India initiative. Once the agreement is finalised, it will make Adani Defence and Aerospace the first private company to ever supply Sonobuoys to the Indian Navy.

Sonobuoys are a very significant component of the Navy’s Anti-Submarine Warfare Systems and other naval operations. It helps in securing and maintaining naval security while also protecting naval carrier strike groups. The Sonobuoys are used for enhancing Undersea Domain Awareness along with providing an effective means to detect, locate, and track submarines and other underwater threats. Earlier, the Indian Navy used to import these systems from global markets which increased the dependency on foreign Original Equipment Manufacturers.

Jeet Adani, the Vice President of Adani Enterprises, addressed the collaboration and said, “In an increasingly volatile maritime environment, strengthening India’s undersea warfare capabilities is not merely a strategic priority but an imperative for safeguarding sovereignty and national interests. The Indian Navy requires integrated, mission-ready ISR and anti-submarine warfare capabilities, including critical systems like sonobuoys, that are indigenously developed, swiftly deployable and globally competitive.”

Adani added, “Through this partnership with Sparton, Adani Defence & Aerospace becomes the first private company in India to offer indigenised sonobuoy solutions, enabling access to advanced technologies while fostering a future ready, self-reliant defence ecosystem.”

As per the company, Sparton’s ongoing relationship with the Indian Navy, will now facilitate Adani Defence to indigenise the delivery of these solutions that are made in India, for India.
