Raj Mishra, a farmer’s son from Mirzapur, becomes Mayor of Wellingborough in UK

In a major turn of events a resident from a small town in India, Raj Mishra has been chosen as a Mayor of a market town in the United Kingdom. Raj who was born in Mirzapur and is a son of a farmer from Uttar Pradesh has now become the Mayor of Wellingborough, a small market town of Northamptonshire in the East Midlands region of England.

Raj Mishra is a member of the conservative party. The 37-year-old was elected in the local elections from the Victoria Ward of the town on 6th May and now has been elected as the fifth Mayor of Wellingborough. Mr. Mishra has chosen the Veterans Community Network and Louisa Gregory’s Hospice Campaign as his charities for the term 2025-26. In his one-year term he will be working on raising their profile and will look to support and fund their charities.

Raj Mishra said, “It is an honour to serve as the mayor of Wellingborough. I am committed to working collaboratively with all residents to foster a vibrant, inclusive, and prosperous community. Together, we will build a brighter future for our town.”

Understanding the unique needs of our area, I am committed to supporting initiatives that drive positive change. My approach is rooted in listening, being approachable, and acting with integrity. Together, we can build a stronger, more connected Wellingborough for everyone,” Mr. Mishra added.

The sixth child of his parents, Raj moved to the United Kingdom to pursue M-tech in computer science. Along with that Mr. Mishra holds a “Data Science certification” from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Mishra has 15 years of work experience in the Information and Technology Industry after which he decided to pursue a career in politics. He was elected as a local town councillor earlier this month.
