There is good news for all the cricket lovers in India, the Indian Premier League (IPL) after its suspension on 9th May 2025, will be resuming their season from 17th May 2025. The Board of Control for Cricket in India has announced that the tournament will be rescheduled and now the final will be played on 3rd June 2025.
The tournament was suspended for a week and has now been rescheduled. The remaining matches will be played at just six venues – Bengaluru, Jaipur, Delhi, Lucknow, Mumbai and Ahmedabad. The venues are only decided for the regular season games, the venues for the playoffs haven’t been announced yet and will be announced shortly. There are only 17 matches remaining for the season out of which there are only two double headers which are both locked for Sundays.
The tournament was suspended amidst the cross-border tensions between the two nuclear-powered nations India and Pakistan. Pakistan had targeted the Northern and North-western regions of India which posed security threats for teams who played their matches in these locations. Although there were no strikes targeted on the venue in which the Punjab Kings and the Delhi Capitals were playing, the match was called off to ensure everyone’s safety.
The match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals which was abandoned midway has now been rescheduled and will now be started all over again on Saturday, May 24th. The battle for the playoffs will now be very intense as there are 5 teams who are majorly competing to qualify for the playoffs.
The Royal Challengers Bangalore and the Gujarat Titans both have 16 points each in the 11 matches played this season and look pretty certain to qualify with just one win required. On the other hand, the 3rd seated Punjab Kings and the 5th seated Delhi Capitals have both had one of their games washed by rain and sit on 15 and 13 points each. The likelihood of Punjab qualifying also seems very high.
The problem lies with the Mumbai Indians who currently sit on the 4th position in the points table but have played one more game than all these teams. With 14 points to their name and just two matches left that too against Delhi and Punjab their route to qualification is very tough as it seems, they will have to win at least one of their matches to remain in the race to qualify.
