Post announcement of India and Pakistan’s agreement on a ceasefire, the Foreign Secretary of India, Vikram Misri was trolled and personally attacked on social media with his family being unnecessarily dragged into the controversy.

However, many diplomats, civil service associations and political figures came out in support of the Foreign Secretary calling the unwarranted personal attacks deeply regrettable. The IAS association commented on the situation and expressed solidarity with Misri and his family and condemned the recent comments he has received.

They posted a statement on their account which read, “The IAS Association stands in solidarity with Shri Vikram Misri, Foreign Secretary, & his family. Unwarranted personal attacks on civil servants performing their duties with integrity are deeply regrettable. We reaffirm our commitment to uphold the dignity of public service.”

Akhilesh Yadav, former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, also spoke up for Misri and called the people trolling him “anti-social criminal elements”. He also criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party and its minister who haven’t come forward in support of the foreign secretary.

He wrote, “It is the government’s responsibility to make decisions – not individual officers. Some anti-social criminal elements are openly crossing all limits of abusive language against the officer and his family, but neither the BJP government nor any of its ministers are coming forward to protect his honor and respect or discussing possible action against those who make such unwanted posts.”

Former Foreign Secretary of India, Nirupama Menon called out the trollers as well calling their actions as “utterly shameful”. She also criticized the abuse that was hurled at Misri’s daughter, wife and other loved ones.

Nirupama said, “It’s utterly shameful to troll Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and his family over the India-Pakistan ceasefire announcement. A dedicated diplomat, Misri has served India with professionalism and resolve, and there is no ground whatsoever for his vilification. Doxxing his daughter and abusing his loved ones crosses every line of decency. This toxic hate must stop, stand united behind our diplomats, not tear them down.”
