As India celebrates the National Technology Day 2025, the Technology Development Board (TBD) has made a big announcement. The TBD comes under the Department of Science and Technology (DST) of the Government of India has announced this year’s theme of the National Technology Day – “YANTRA – Yugantar for Advancing New Technology, Research & Acceleration.” The theme of the day signifies the shift that the Indian government has taken towards technological leadership.
“YANTRA” is a term that has its roots dug deep in India’s scientific and cultural history. The words not only represent the mechanical ingenuity but also the symbolic power of systems, synergy, and scalable solutions.
The term Yugantar signifies a transformative change that will mark the beginning of a new era where India is transitioning from being a nation that used to adapt to technology to a nation that is becoming the world leader in technology. With the government’s Make in India vision the country has not only been developing its technology but is building it in such a way that it leads to a sustainable future with green and resilient technology ecosystems across industries.
On this auspicious day, the nation pays homage to the historic events of 11th May 1998 when India successfully conducted Nuclear Tests and launch of the Hansa-3 aircraft. These historic events led to the then Prime Minister, Sh. Atal Bihari Vajpayee naming 11th May as the official National Technology Day of India.
Over the past years, India has celebrated National Technology Day as an occasion to reward and honor scientific excellence. The country, through the event, has also showcased industrial innovations, and reinforced the partnership between science, society, and industry. The goal of this year’s event is to bring together policymakers, scientists, technocrats, industry leaders, academic institutions, and startup founders to boost the already growing India’s technology industries through deep-tech, precision engineering, and transformative R&D.
