In a dramatic escalation of tensions, India successfully neutralized a large-scale missile attack launched by Pakistan late Wednesday night, with 15 Indian cities targeted across Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, and Gujarat. The Indian Air Force (IAF) employed its advanced Russian-made S-400 missile defence system to intercept and destroy incoming missiles, while Israeli HARPY drones were deployed in a retaliatory strike to disable Pakistani air defence radars, including a key installation in Lahore.
According to official sources, the S-400 system was activated to engage “moving targets” as Pakistani forces fired a barrage of missiles at Indian military installations. All incoming threats were intercepted, preventing any significant damage or casualties. In a swift counter-operation, India launched HARPY drones, designed specifically for the suppression of enemy air defences, effectively disabling Pakistani radar systems and crippling their ability to mount further aerial attacks.
The government stated that debris from intercepted missiles and destroyed drones is being collected as evidence of Pakistan’s continued support for cross-border terrorism, both through military means and financial backing. This latest attack comes just a day after India’s Operation Sindoor, a major armed response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives. During Operation Sindoor, Indian forces targeted and destroyed nine terror bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, reportedly killing over 100 militants.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh briefed opposition leaders on Thursday, emphasizing India’s readiness and technological superiority in defending its territory. The S-400 “Sudharshan Chakra,” capable of tracking threats from 600 km away and intercepting them within a 400-km range, has become a cornerstone of India’s air defence, with three squadrons currently operational along the Pakistan and China borders.
The situation remains tense, with both nations’ militaries on high alert. International observers have urged restraint, warning that further escalation could destabilize the region. India, meanwhile, has reiterated its commitment to national security and its resolve to respond decisively to any acts of aggression.
