Universal Studios, the global entertainment powerhouse, is preparing to make a landmark entry into India with the launch of its first-ever theme park in the country. The much-anticipated project is slated to open by mid-2027 near Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, marking a significant milestone in India’s rapidly evolving entertainment landscape.
The new theme park will be a key attraction within a sprawling 3 million square foot retail and entertainment complex being developed by Bharti Realty at Aerocity. This mega-mall is envisioned as the centerpiece of a larger 17 million square foot urban hub, aiming to become one of India’s largest and most dynamic city destinations. Of the total space, approximately 300,000 square feet has been earmarked for the indoor amusement park, setting a new benchmark as one of the largest indoor entertainment venues in the country.
Unlike traditional outdoor theme parks, Universal Studios’ Indian debut will be entirely indoors, offering a weatherproof, all-season experience. This innovative approach is tailored to India’s climate and urban planning needs, ensuring visitors can enjoy world-class attractions year-round. The park is expected to feature signature Universal Studios experiences such as Minions, Jurassic World, Fast & Furious, and Harry Potter-themed adventures, all customized for Indian audiences and designed to cater to families and visitors of all ages.
Strategically located at Aerocity, adjacent to Delhi Airport, the development promises exceptional accessibility for both domestic and international tourists. The project has already completed over 6.5 million square feet of built-up space, with ambitions to significantly boost tourism, create thousands of jobs, and generate over ₹5,000 crore in annual rental income.
India’s indoor entertainment sector is on a growth trajectory, currently spanning 6.6 million square feet and projected to reach 11 million square feet by 2028. Universal Studios’ foray is expected to elevate the country’s theme park standards and stimulate further investment in immersive entertainment and retail.
While an official confirmation from Universal Studios is still pending, industry insiders suggest that advanced negotiations are underway. As anticipation builds, the stage is set for Universal Studios to bring the magic of Hollywood to the heart of Delhi, promising a transformative experience for India’s entertainment industry.
