On May 3, 2025, Dr. Shuvendu Sen was honored with the Sushruta Charaka Award (the highest excellence Award in Medicine and Health care) by The Association of Indians in America (AIA), the oldest organization in the US. AIA was founded on August 20, 1967 after the United States Congress passed the 1965-66 Immigration Act, repealing the Asian Exclusion Act of 1917. This award was presented at the annual awards gala of AIA held at the iconic Cipriani Hall, 42nd Street, New York.

Dr. Deepak L. Bhatt, MD, Director at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York; Dr. Latha Chandran, MD, Executive Dean for the Education & Policy and the Bernard J. Fogel Founding Chair at University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine; and Dr. Chetan Sathya, MD, pediatric Trauma Surgeon of Cohen Children’s Medical Center were also honored at the annual awards gala.

AIA is the grassroot National Organization of Asian Immigrants in the United States, fostered on the democratic principles of “one member one vote”, with chapters and membership spread across the United States of America. AIA represents the hopes and aspirations of those immigrants who are united by their common bond of “Indian Heritage and American Commitment.”
