Following the banning of ‘Abir Gulaal’ in India, all traces of the movie’s promotional activity have been removed from Vaani Kapoor’s Instagram account, the lead actress of the film. Vaani Kapoor stars with Pakistani actor Fawad Khan in the flick, which was initially scheduled for release in India on May 9, 2025.

The content ranging from posters and teasers to behind-the-scenes moments, have been deleted by the film’s production team, leading to an automatic deletion from the actress’ Instagram profile. In addition to Kapoor’s social media, all songs and promotional content related to the film have been removed from YouTube India.

This move came after the Instagram accounts of several Pakistani artistes, including Fawad Khan, Hania Aamir, Mahira Khan, Atif Aslam, Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and others, were restricted in India following the Pahalgam terror attack. Anyone attempting to access their profiles from within India is met with a blank page and a message that reads: “Account not available in India. This is because we complied with a legal request to restrict this content.”

Earlier, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE), had called for a complete ban on Pakistani artists from working in India. Ashoke Dubey, General Secretary, FWICE had said in a statement, “Since this is a matter of national interest, the nation comes first. The continuous attacks, including the recent one in Pahalgam on our tourists, are shameful. We have again issued a press release stating that if any of our members are found working with Pakistani artists or technicians, we will take action against them and stop working with them.”
