In a beautiful show of unity, compassion, and environmental stewardship, the Roselle Park District witnessed an extraordinary event on Saturday, April 26, 2025, which is a Community Tree Planting Day, a powerful collaboration between the Federation of Indian Associations (FIA) Chicago and the Chicago Indo-US Lions Club. Themed “LOVE OUR MOTHER EARTH,” the event was more than just a tree-planting initiative; it was a heartfelt tribute to nature and a step toward a greener future for the community.

Led by Sunil Shah, Founder and Chairman of FIA, and Lion Hina Trivedi, Founder and President of the Indo-US Lions Club, this initiative drew enthusiastic participation from volunteers of all ages. Notably, dozens of high school students from both the ‘Lake Park Schools’ arrived early in the morning, their energy and dedication setting the tone for the day. Their involvement transformed the park into a living classroom, offering an unforgettable lesson in environmental education and the importance of sustainability.

Dinesh Kapoor of FIA managed the logistics and planning with precision and heart, ensuring everything ran smoothly, right from arranging the saplings to guiding volunteers to planting spots. His dedication exemplified the behind-the-scenes efforts that made this collaboration a true success.

“This is not just about planting trees,” said Sunil Shah, addressing the crowd. “It’s about planting hope. Every tree we put in the ground today is a promise to our children, a commitment to climate resilience, and a symbol of harmony with Mother Nature.” He emphasized that tree plantations help combat climate change, improve air quality, provide shade and cooling in urban areas, and promote biodiversity. The event wasn’t just well-organized; it was very emotional. Locals walking through the park were so moved by the enthusiasm and unity they witnessed, that many spontaneously joined the planting effort. Their involvement reflected the strong community spirit of Roselle, a proof to the power of collective action.

Today, we didn’t just plant trees, we planted bonds between organizations, between generations, and between people and the Earth.”

Anu Malhotra, President of FIA, echoed this sentiment: “This collaboration with Roselle City and the Indo-US Lions Club was seamless, powerful, and inspiring. Together, we demonstrated how impactful community engagement can be, when driven by purpose.”
