Indian Americans hosted candle light vigil all across USA. Such events were held at Times Square, Edison, Parsippany, Long Island and other places by Indian diaspora community organizations. These events witnessed participation from state and city officials, also who expressed sympathy with the families of innocent individuals killed by terrorists on April 22, 2025, in Pahalgam, famous as Mini Switzerland of India. Four terrorists sprayed bullets on victims of this heinous attack who were enjoying the beauty of this popular tourist spot in India.

This terror attack takes another dimension as the terrorists involved not just killed tourists but isolated only Hindu men and shot them on point blank range. More than 20 injured are getting treatment in hospitals. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi held an emergency meeting with top leadership of the Indian Government to decide and plan a firm action in response to this gruesome killings in cold blood on religious lines.

Sensing the shocking nature of this terror attack, world leaders have condemned the attack and offered support to India. Meanwhile, India has suspended Indus water treaty with Pakistan for supporting terrorist organizations and reduced its high commission staff at Pakistan embassy.

Meanwhile, Pakistan has sought help from Iran, China and Russia to investigate this terror incident.
I also participated in this program because I was invited by my community members. While my heartfelt condolences go to the victims of this horrifying event, I feel that keeping this news 24/7 for weeks on every channel and hosting numerous candlelight vigils in support of the families is playing into the hands of the Terrorists. That is exactly what they want when they execute such an event. They want publicity and by dong all this we are just giving them what they want.
The correct response should have been, a very normal reporting on media. No front page headline news in news papers. May be a small column on 7th or 8th page in normal font with no pictures, and increase in tourism in Kashmir would have defeated the purpose of this attack.
