Shekhar Kapur to be jury chair at Istanbul Film Festival 2025

Veteran filmmaker Shekhar Kapur is off to a new cinematic start with his selection as the chairman of the jury at the Istanbul Film Festival 2025. In addition to his role at the film festival, Kapur is also stepping into the shoes of an educator. He will be lecturing at a leading Film School in Istanbul, mentoring aspiring filmmakers and sharing his insights on storytelling, direction, and navigating the creative process in a changing world.

Announcing the news, Kapur wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter), “Off to a new adventure… chairman of the Jury of the Istanbul Film Festival, and teaching at the Film School. Ah well… can’t complain, can I? There’s always something exciting around the corner. A new beginning, perhaps?”

Shekhar Kapur is the recipient of several accolades, including a BAFTA Award, a National Film Award, a National Board of Review Award and three Filmfare Awards, in addition to nomination for a Golden Globe Award. Kapur was also honoured with the Padma Bhushan, India’s third-highest civilian award, in 2025.
