At the News18 Rising Bharat Summit 2025, British-Indian entrepreneur and House of Lords peer Karan Bilimoria praised India’s global standing, highlighting the country’s entrepreneurial talent and the global impact of Indians in leadership positions.
Bilimoria emphasized that the world has recognized India’s potential, attributing this transformation to economic liberalization that began over three decades ago. He noted the Indian economy’s remarkable growth since 2002, which has propelled it to become the fastest-growing major economy globally, with a growth rate exceeding 6%.
Speaking at the Bharat Mandapam in Delhi, Bilimoria pointed out the perception of Indians abroad, stating that they are increasingly seen as the “cleverest people in the world.” He referenced his statements in the House of Lords, expressing that the UK could learn from India’s focus on engineering, maths, and science, which has led to Indians leading global companies.
Bilimoria cited examples of successful individuals from his alma mater, Hyderabad Public School, including Satya Nadella (Microsoft), Ajay Banga (World Bank), and Shantanu Narayen (Adobe), underscoring the significant contributions of Indians in various fields. He also acknowledged the recent appointment of a Prime Minister of Indian origin in the UK as a source of pride.
In addition to intellectual prowess, Bilimoria emphasized India’s entrepreneurial spirit as a key strength. He noted that after independence, this spirit was suppressed for decades but is now flourishing, with Indian entrepreneurs making a significant impact worldwide, from start-ups to multinational corporations.
