On Thursday, a Democratic fundraiser of Indian American descent unveiled a new digital video called “I will vote for Kamala Harris-Tim Walz” with the aim of mobilizing South Asian voters in crucial swing states.
The video, inspired by Bollywood and featuring the instrumental version of a song from the movie Animal, which is based on A.R. Rahman’s iconic track “Dil Hai Chhota Sa, Chhoti Si Asha” from the film Roja, seeks to resonate with South Asian communities in Michigan, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Georgia, Nevada, Arizona, and North Carolina.
Ajay Bhutoria, a member of the National Finance Committee for the Kamala Harris presidential campaign, urged for unity and encouraged support for Kamala Harris.
In addition, he revealed intentions to launch more Bollywood-inspired videos as part of continuous endeavors to increase voter participation for Harris and her running mate Tim Walz.
“The choice is clear between Kamala Harris’ vision for a better future and Trump’s divisiveness. Thousands of South Asian volunteers are organizing, knocking on doors, and making calls to help win this race,” he said.
The video emphasizes how these themes align with Vice President Harris’ message of hope and unity.
He said, “Vice President Harris embodies joy and hope for our community. She’s running to build a future that moves beyond the divisiveness of Donald Trump. She represents hope for over 5 million Indian Americans. We are using Bollywood music to engage our community and ensure their voices are heard.”
The video, which was conceived by Ajay and Vinita Bhutoria and brought to life by Ritesh Parikh of Awesome TV, includes messages in various languages such as Telugu, Gujarati, Punjabi, Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, Malayalam, and Urdu.
As per Parikh, “Bollywood has always connected people through stories, and Kamala Harris reflects that spirit by bringing people together. She brings joy and hope for all of us.”
