Australia implemented significant changes to its visa rules, particularly affecting Indian nationals. These changes primarily focused on student visas and post-study work rights, aiming to tighten immigration controls.

The reforms will shorten post-study work rights for Temporary Graduate visa holders, reducing the age eligibility from 50 to 35 years and imposing stricter English language proficiency requirements.

Despite these changes, certain visa holders, such as those on Working Holiday Maker and Work and Holiday visas, are exempt and will not be affected. Additionally, students who have already lodged their applications before the deadline of July 1, 2024, will see their applications processed without disruption.

These adjustments reflect Australia’s broader strategy to manage immigration more effectively while ensuring that students meet specific criteria before entering the country. For Indian nationals, this means a more challenging pathway to studying in Australia, as they must now navigate these new regulations carefully.
