Four Indian Army soldiers, including an officer, have been killed in action during an encounter with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district, officials said on Tuesday. Meanwhile, the Indian Army successfully eliminated three hardcore foreign terrorists attempting to infiltrate across the Line of Control (LoC) in the Keran Sector of the Kupwara District of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday.
As per the officials, on the intervening night of July 13-14, acting on credible inputs, multiple ambushes were laid along the appreciated route of infiltration. Elaborating on the encounter with the terrorists, Commander of the 268th Infantry Brigade, Keran Sector, Brigadier NR Kulkarni, said that they had intelligence inputs of terrorists trying to disturb normalcy in the area.
Meanwhile, elaborating on the recent increase in terrorist attacks, Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police, RR Swain said on Monday that Pakistan successfully infiltrated all important aspects of civil society, with the help of so-called mainstream or regional politics in the Valley.
While addressing students at the Orientation Programme at the Indian Institute of Management, DGP Swain said, “Pakistan successfully infiltrated all important aspects of civil society, thanks to so-called mainstream or regional politics in the Valley. There is ample evidence to show that many had owned the art of running with the hare and hunting with the hound, which left both the common man and the security bewildered, frightened, and confused.”
“Visiting the homes of killed terrorists and expressing sympathy in public was normal. While the elimination of new recruits in terrorism was allowed and tacitly encouraged, those who facilitated recruitment and arranged finances were never investigated. SP rank officers were arrested and put in jails alongside terrorists, for crimes they had never committed. The drowning of two girls in 2014 was allowed to be hijacked by narrative terrorism, which held the Valley at ransom, hartals, and rioting for many weeks. A very detailed investigation by the CBI and verified by the AIIMS forensics proved it was an accident,” he added.
The J-K DGP also pointed out that things had come to such a pass that the so-called mainstream political parties had started cultivating leaders of terror networks and sometimes directly to further their electoral prospects.
Further, RR Swain emphasized that due to the strategy of the government, security forces and population, this dubious duplicity has been put to an end. “It is the unflinching stance and strategy of the Government of India and security forces backed by a population since last several years that this duality and dubious duplicity has been put to an end or an attempt has been made towards it which has put the national security adversary to the back foot,” he said.
“It is the call of the highest level of policy-making that political and economic opportunity would no longer be prerogative of privileged few but will be available to all,” the J-K DGP added.
RR Swain, said on Monday that even one terrorist sent to kill indiscriminately, with the purpose of increasing the level of violence, is a challenge for the security forces.
Swain said, “The terrorists are not much in number (in the Valley), but that does not define the situation because they are unaccountable entities. Even one unaccountable entity or a man sent to kill indiscriminately without any connection to this land, with no purpose but to repeat the level of violence or increase it, is a challenge.”
The DGP of J-K also held a meeting with the Punjab Police over infiltration via the Punjab border.
“Infiltration is taking place (via Punjab border) and it is a commonplace knowledge. We tried to deliberate with ourselves as to the new methods and the modus operandi they are adopting. We talked about how to address more effectively, their use of tunnels to infiltrate. There are certain things of operational confidentiality, but we tried to put our minds together and we have a response which will eventually work,” RR Swain said.
