It was an evening of rip-roaring humor, non-stop laughter and heart-warming recitals as UP Association hosted Hasya Kavi Sammelan on Sunday April 21st.  The event was held at Ashyana Banquets, Downers Grove, IL.

Arun Gemini, Shambhu Sikhar and Mumtaz Naseem created an atmosphere laced with satire and humor in front of the audience.  Traditional songs such as ‘gazals’ and ‘geets’ were also performed at the event.

Dr Subhash Pandey, chairman of the association, said that the tradition of ‘Kavi Sammelan’ was started in 1991 by members to promote and preserve the Hindi language outside of India. The association’s president Uma Agrawal added that the poetry performances were part of a signature event held regularly by them.

Sanjeev Kumar Pal, the Consul of Cultural Affairs at the office of the Consulate General of India, Chicago, appreciated the support of the Indian community in its efforts to promote the language of Hindi. Over 300 people were present at the event.

The Uttar Pradesh Association (UPA) of Greater Chicago was established in 1991 with the objective of bringing together people interested in Uttar Pradesh by promoting Indian music, art and culture.
