Imtiaz Ali’s recent film ‘Amar Singh Chamkila’ on Netflix has been receiving unprecedented love from audiences across the world. In this movie starring Daljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra, everyone’s got their parts right, and that’s the beauty of this film because you know there’s no misfit here.
In ‘Amar Singh Chamkila’, the man behind many successful Bollywood potboilers, filmmaker Rahul Mittra gets barely a minute-and- a-half of screen time as DSP Bhatti but it’s Mittra’s flawless performance as the no-nonsense Punjab Police officer that has left the audiences spellbound.
Rahul Mittra’s portrayal as the cynical officer, who despises Chamkila and warns him of serious consequences if he doesn’t mend his ways, has been getting rave reviews from critics and masses on social media alike. “Warning dene bulaya hai tujhe,” roars Mittra, playing DSP Bhatti, as he tears into actors Daljit Dosanjh and Apinderdeep Singh as they look on helplessly.
Rahul Mittra who grew a real beard for this film looks like a real-life stern cop and it’s this arc and the way the actor depicts is, that are both beautiful to watch.
Incidentally, Mittra has witnessed terrorism as a young boy in the 1980s in Chandigarh where his father, a senior IAS officer, was posted at the same time when Amarjot and Chamkila were assassinated. This, apart from his personality and command over Punjabi language and accent were the primary reasons for Imtiaz Ali to cast Rahul Mittra in this short yet crucial scene in the film, making both the scene and the character of DSP Bhatti popular.
