A group of seven senior legislators from Delaware, the home state of US President Joe Biden, performed Bhangra as they joined the Sikh community to celebrate Baisakhi. This was a first-of-its-kind initiative. Delaware is the home state of President Joe Biden.

Dressed in traditional Punjabi attire, the team included Delaware Senate Majority Leader Bryan Townsend; Senate Majority Whip Elizabeth Lockman; Senator Stephanie Hansen; Senator Laura Sturgeon, and State Representatives Paul Baumbach, Sherry Dorsey Walker and Sophie Phillips. One legislative aide also joined them in the performance.

The lawmakers, spent hours with an expert Bhangra instructor Indian-American Vishwas Singh Sodhi, showed off their dancing skills during the Vaisakhi event at the Sikh Center of Delaware located at 1107 S. Dupont Highway, New Castle.

The legislative team worked hard and invested a lot of time preparing for the performance under the instruction of regional Bhangra legend, Vishwas Singh Sodhi — popularly known as Vicky — who has performed extensively, including at several NBA basketball games.

In addition to the performance by the rookie state legislators, the day featured performances by more experienced Bhangra dancers, including college and youth teams mentored by Twinkle Madan Chadha.
