The United States recognizes the importance of highly qualified professionals from India. Congressman Matt Cartwright, representing Pennsylvania’s 8th Congressional District, advocates for the removal of the 7%  country quota for issuing Green Cards. This quota has led to decades of waiting for Indian professionals who have moved to the US.

In an interview, Cartwright emphasized that the US relies on high-quality, highly skilled individuals from around the world to contribute to its workforce. He believes that welcoming people from diverse backgrounds is a natural advantage for the United States. The current 7% limit disproportionately affects nations like India, which boasts a wealth of highly educated talent. Cartwright supports efforts to eliminate this arbitrary restriction and encourages Indian professionals to become part of the US economy and its intellectual community. Cartwright is supporting Indian American organizations like the Foundation for India and Indian Diaspora (FIIDS) for the removal of per country 7% quota in green card issuance in a year.

Furthermore, he recognizes the vital trade relationship between the US and India. In his district in northeastern Pennsylvania, Cartwright has witnessed the positive impact of Indian immigrants, who form a vibrant and family-oriented community. Their contributions enrich the nation’s economy and intellectual capital. Cartwright’s stance reflects the longstanding tradition of the United States, which has always welcomed individuals of high intellect and ethical standards to invigorate its society and economy.
