Krutrim, the Ola founder Bhavish Aggarwal’s artificial intelligence startup has raised $50 million in funding at a $1 billion valuation. Thus, becoming India’s first AI startup to reach the unicorn status.
The company was incorporated as Krutrim SI Designs in April, 2023 and has teams based in Bengaluru and San Francisco.
The investor’s in Krutrim’s latest funding round include Matrix Partners India. Interestingly, Krutrim has hit the billion-dollar valuation just a month after its debut as a large language AI model.
Krutrim, which means “artificial” in Sanskrit, is also in the process of developing data centers across the country, aiming to create a supercomputer ecosystem for AI development in India, the company said in a blog post.
Aggarwal said in a statement, “We are thrilled to announce the successful closure of our first funding round, which not only validates the potential of Krutrim’s innovative AI solutions but also underscores the confidence investors have in our ability to drive meaningful change out of India for the world.”
Aggarwal completed his bachelor’s degree in computer science and engineering at the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay.
After completing his graduation from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bhavish Aggarwal kick-started his professional journey as an intern at the tech giant, Microsoft India. Subsequently, he also spent two years with Microsoft India from 2008 to 2010, as an Assistant Researcher. During his time at the company, Bhavish made a series of significant contributions and also filed two patents and published three research papers in reputable international academic journals.
The beta version of Krutrim will be available for consumers from February. Additionally, it will also be available as an API (Application programming interface) for enterprises and developers, seeking to create AI applications.
