Arjun Nimmala, the 17-year-old Indian American,  has made history by being drafted as the 20th pick in the 2023 MLB Draft. Nimmala  is the first-ever first-generation Indian-American to be drafted so prominently in any of the four major sports. Arjun Nimmala is an American professional baseball shortstop in the Toronto Blue Jays organization. He is ranked third on Major League Baseball’s 2023 Top 30 Blue Jays prospects list.

Nimmala primarily played cricket but his father enrolled him up for Little League. Arjun Nimmala quickly fell in love with baseball and aspired to be a pro from a young age. He became a standout shortstop at Strawberry Crest High School in Dover, Florida.

The 6 feet 1-inch tall player can easily drive the ball to all sides of the field and shows signs of great power to come as he ages. During 77 games in high school, he only committed 15 errors while stealing 31 bases. The future is bright for this young slugger. If he can develop into the player many believe he can, he will leave a last impression on the game.

Speaking about his latest achievement of joining the MLB, the young player said, “It was always a dream of mine to play Major League Baseball ever since I knew what the MLB was. It’s a dream come true. I hope I play well enough for them to really watch me, like how Japan stopped and watched Shohei Ohtani in the WBC. I hope they pay attention, that’d be so cool. I just want them to watch and be proud of what we Indians can do,” the player shared.
