Aparna Chennapragada to lead Microsoft’s generative AI efforts

A seasoned technology professional, Aparna Chennapragada, an Indian American has joined tech giant Microsoft as its corporate vice president, heading generative artificial intelligence (AI) efforts in Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Designer, a software product that competes directly with industry giants like Adobe and Canva.

“With generative AI, there is an opportunity to build products that instantly and easily bring your intent and imagination to life,” she posted on the professional networking website LinkedIn.

“That’s why I am super excited to share that I am joining Microsoft as Corporate VP leading efforts on AI-first creation experiences, across Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Designer,” she added further.

“I’ve always thrived on building and scaling products that combine deep foundational technology and intuitive user experience to solve customer problems,” Chennapragada elaborated. “I’m looking forward to diving in and putting AI to use to unleash our collective creativity.”

Reacting to Chennapragada’s post on LinkedIn, Microsoft’s chief executive officer (CEO) and chairman Satya Nadella commented, “Welcome, Aparna. Fantastic to have you join us and look forward to seeing your impact here.”

Before joining Microsoft, Chennapragada had worked in organizations such as Robinhood, Google, eBay, and Akamai Technologies. She started as a product manager at Google and went on to become the vice president and general manager for consumer shopping, led the augmented reality (AR) and visual search products (Lens), serving for over 12 years.

She served as a board member of Capital One and is also a board member of eBay.

A bachelor’s in computer science from IIT – Madras, she has earned her M.S. in computer science from the University of Texas, Austin; and another master’s in management and engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), as per her profile details on LinkedIn.
