Indian Seniors of Chicago celebrate Raksha Bandhan and Independence Day

The General Meeting of Indian Seniors of Chicago was held on 12th August at Mahalakshmi Hall of Manav Seva Mandir. More than 240 members attended the meeting which was conducted by Professor Sharad Shah.

Jyotsna, Nilam, Panna, Geetha, and Bhupendra sang Ganesha Stuti and Sarva Dharma prayers at the beginning. Then all members recited Shri Hanuman Chalisa in the group. Treasurer Mr. C V Desai presented the income and expenditure account for the month of July and announced the names of the individuals who had donated to the organization. Mr. Dilip Patel, a member of the Executive Committee, provided information about the annual entertainment program of the organization to be held in December 2023.

Mrs. Geeta Suthar led the Raksha Bandhan program celebration. Hasu, Ilaben, Kokila, Panna, Nayana and Geetha tied Rakhi to Chandrakant Patel, Chiman Patel, Kanu Patel, Baiju Mehta, Hasmukh Patel and Deepak Patel. Bhupendra Suthar recited Raksha Bandhan’s blessings in Sanskrit. Bhupendra Suthar and Mrs. Panna Shah sang ‘Bhaiya Mere Rakhi Ke Bandhan Ko Nibhana’.

The Independence Day of India was celebrated in a grand manner. Praveen Gandhi sang two patriotic songs ‘ Ae Mere Watan ke Logo’ and ‘Mere Desh Ki Dharti Sona Ugale’. Arvind Patel dressed up as a soldier, and performed the patriotic song ‘Apni Azadi Ko Hum Hargeez Mita Shakte Nahi’. Mrs. Panna Shah compiled the Nritya Natika in which Mrs. Geeta Suthar, Mrs. Jayashree Shah, Mrs. Geeta Desai, Mrs. Ela Patel, and Mrs. Panna Shah participated.

Along with India’s tricolor, they danced to patriotic songs like ‘Ma Tuje Salaam, Vande Mataram, and Jai Ho. Professor Sharad Shah gave detailed information about the features of India. Then the Independence Day parade was presented under the leadership of Mr. Bhupendra Suthar and Mr. Navin Patel. The members wore tricolor sash and each held the national flag. When the parade entered Mahalakshmi Hall, all the members stood up and chanted Bharat Mata ki Jai, Vande Mataram, Shahido Amar Raho, etc., making the whole atmosphere patriotic. In today’s ceremony, the flag was hoisted by the Chief Guest Mr. Dahyabhai Prajapati. All the members stood and sang the National Anthem and Mr. Dahyabhai Prajapati delivered the keynote address and wished the President of Indian Seniors, executive members, and all present on Independence Day and expressed his happiness for organizing a beautiful program.

Professor Sharad Shah appealed to the members whose birthdays come in the month of August to come forward. Greeting cards were given by Mr. Navin Patel. All members sang the song ‘Bar Baar Ye Din Aye Tum Jio Hazaro Saal’ along with Bhupendra Suthar and wished them a happy birthday. A group photo was taken on this occasion.

Mr. Chirag Shah, Manager of Home Health Care, gave detailed information about scam calls and medical insurance for seniors. He gave details of what should be done to be careful of scam calls. Mrs. Panna Shah, who sponsored sweets for today’s lunch, President Dr.Narsinhbhai Patel. Mrs. Pannaben Shah’s family members were present on this occasion. Pres Dr. Narsinhbhai Patel thanked all the volunteers, and members who participated. Mr. Chirag Shah, special guest Dahyabhai Prajapati requested the members to participate in such programs in the future and thanked Mr. Dilip Patel, Member of the Executive Committee for coordination. At the end, the group prayed for all the members and enjoyed a delicious lunch.
