A nice sunny day saw the unfurling of India’s tri-color in the heart of New York City at the world-famous spot, Times Square. A ritual started by the Federation of Indian Associations (FIA), the largest umbrella organization in the US, during the Covid-19 pandemic, has become the highlight of the 15th August celebrations.

With the backdrop of famous tall buildings, LEDs, and colorful outlets, people from all over the world stop by to engage in every major happening at this venue. FIA initiated the flag-hoisting to ensure that the celebrations continued when the world-famous India Day Parade could not be held for two years due to the Covid-19 crisis. Now, the FIA leaders with the Consulate of India in New York host the event in the early morning with short speeches, national anthems, cultural programs, and the unfurling of the flag.

Everyone clapped and sang the national anthem along with “Jai Hind” and other popular patriotic songs as the global tourists and shoppers watched with enthusiasm. It seems like India has arrived in the hearts of everyone.
