Smita N. Shah appointed to Chicagoland’s economic development agency board

Smita N. Shah an Indian-American has been named to the World Business Chicago’s Board of Directors on June 28, 2023. She is the President and CEO of Chicago-based SPAAN Tech, Inc. a global engineering and management company.  

“It is an honor to join such a dedicated group of civic-minded business leaders who are working tirelessly to ensure job growth and prosperity in all neighborhoods across Chicagoland,” said Shah. “We are committed to building stronger communities here at SPAAN Tech, and I am grateful for this opportunity to utilize my experience to make a difference in the City we all call home.”

World Business Chicago is the public-private economic development agency for the area, which aims to drive inclusive economic growth and encourage the development of Chicago as a leading hub for business. She was appointed to the Board for her successful stint as a woman-owned construction management and engineering firm, working on critical infrastructure projects across Chicago and contributing to the city and country.

She was chosen to participate in the 2023 Cohort of Leadership Greater Chicago’s Daniel Burnham Fellowship, which works to shape the future of Chicago by mobilizing senior executives to exert their powerful influence.

In 2022, Shah was named to the inaugural President’s Advisory Commission on Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders where she advocates for the AANHPI community’s ease of access, belongingness, and inclusion in the United States. She is also the Chairman of the Delhi Committee of Chicago Sister Cities International.
