9th International Day of Yoga celebrated by the Indian Consulate in Chicago

The Consulate General of India, Chicago, on June 18, organized the 9th International Day of Yoga at the lakefront in Navy Pier with much fanfare to honor the International Day of Yoga on June 21. More than 300 Yoga enthusiasts took part in the event. The inaugural remarks were made by Consul General Somnath Ghosh, and it was followed by an amazing performance of the Common Yoga Protocol conducted by eminent Yoga instructors Anu Malhotra, Mara Zimmerman, Saba Haider, and Yash Choudhary.

CG Ghosh explained the significance of the IYD 2023 theme “Yoga for Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam,” and proudly presented Yoga as India’s gift to humanity with immense benefits to all mankind irrespective of the sect, religion, or country. He emphasized that Yoga helps improve physical fitness and mental well-being for a holistic life and sustainable environment. He applauded the efforts of Yoga organizations and the Indian-American community to propagate yoga.

A photography contest to capture the essence of Yoga while performing Yoga poses at iconic locations was held and contestants were honored by the Consul General with certificates.

The Polk Bros Park in Navy Pier was bearing festive looks with enthusiastic practitioners doing yoga on green lawns, right on the bank of Lake Michigan. This magnificent event witnessed active participation from the State Bank of India, Chicago, and organizations like the Art of Living, Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh (HSS), Sewa International, Brahmakumaris, Isha Foundation, Federation of Indian Associations, Shrimad Rajchandra Mission Dharampur, Indian Community Niles Township, Each Life is Precious, and Yogapathic.
