Wai Yee Chan, the candidate for the Democratic nomination in New York City Council District 43, was endorsed by the United Federation of Teachers, the union representing nearly 200,000 teachers, paraprofessionals, and other essential school personnel.

“Through creating after-school programs and working as an ESL teacher, Wai Yee Chan knows the ground-level work needed to help our educators,” said Michael Mulgrew, President of the UFT. “We proudly support her campaign for City Council District 43.”

“Every New Yorker deserves access to high-quality public education,” said Wai Yee Chan. “I am deeply proud to have the support of our City’s teachers, and I look forward to working together to ensure our public schools are fully funded and the best in the nation.”

Wai Yee Chan is the Executive Director of Homecrest Community Services, a non-profit that provides community-based, multi-social services for seniors and immigrant families living in southern Brooklyn. Previously she was the Director of Community Engagement for Councilman Justin Brannan and Brooklyn Director of the Chinese American Planning Council.

For nearly three decades, Wai Yee Chan has worked to ensure our city’s residents have the resources necessary to thrive. Now she’s running for City Council to guarantee that those resources are protected and expanded and that every resident in Southern Brooklyn has access to high-quality education, and public safety, and can age with dignity.

The Democratic Primary is set for Tuesday, June 27, 2023.
