Indian Consulate in New York joins beach clean-up event

A beach cleaning activity at Jones Beach, Long Island, New York was conducted on May 21, 2023, by the Consulate General of India, New York, in partnership with Shanti Fund and New York State Parks Department, as part of the focus areas of G-20 under India’s Presidency.

In keeping with Gandhian ideals of cleanliness, beach clean-up drive was part of India’s global initiative to address the problem of marine litter and work together for the sustainable development of oceans. This activity was also a part of celebrating 75 years of India’s Independence – Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.

Speaking on the occasion, India’s Consul General Randhir Jaiswal, elaborated on the theme of India’s G20 Presidency – ‘One Earth, One Family, One Future’ and highlighted the importance of Mission LiFE (Lifestyle For Environment) and the need to adopt sustainable ways of living.

Jaiswal pointed out the urgency with which the global community must address plastic waste getting dumped into the sea. This needs the participation of the citizens to prevent and clean up marine litter to address the problem of coastal and marine pollution.

The event received wholesome support and participation from the community, who came in large numbers including children for the Swachhata Abhiyan and celebration of Mission LiFE.
