Indian American Sean Desai named defensive coordinator of Philadelphia Eagles team

The Philadelphia Eagles, a National Football League (NFL) team, announced that they have appointed Sean Desai to be the team’s new defensive coordinator. Desai, replaced Jonathan Gannon, who was hired by the Arizona Cardinals to be their head coach.

“His overall knowledge of football and football IQ are extremely high,” said head coach Nick Sirianni. “He’s a really sharp coach. I’m excited that he’s now onboard.”

2023 will be Desai’s 11th season as a coach in the NFL. Desai entered the NFL ranks in 2013 as the quality control coach of defense for the Bears. Desai was named Bears’ safeties coach in 2019 and promoted to defensive coordinator in 2021.

Born in Shelton, Connecticut, Desai graduated in political science and philosophy from Boston University. He did his masters from Columbia University.  Desai was the first Indian American coordinator in NFL history. 2023 will be Desai’s 11th season as a coach in the NFL. He received his doctorate in educational administration and started his coaching career at Temple (2007-10).

Desai who has coached in Chicago under noted defensive minds, including Vic Fangio, John Fox, Mel Tucker, and Chuck Pagano,  was a part of 3 different coaching staffs with the Bears.

Desai joined the University of Miami in 2011 as assistant director of football operations. His coaching career started at Temple University where he spent five seasons as defensive and special teams coach. He also served as adjunct professor there.
