Sam Joshi has won the Edison Democratic primary by defeating Mahesh Bhagia by a 2-1 margin. With most of the votes counted including Vote By Mail, Joshi had 5,868 votes to Bhagia’s 3,145. Joshi’s Council running mates Harris, Poyner and Patel also cruised to victory.

“I am so very humbled and grateful for the confidence that the Democratic voters in Edison have placed in me,” stated Joshi. My running mates and I want to thank all the voters who participated in todays Primary. Whether you voted for us or not all of us as Democrats have to come together and work hard to ensure a Democratic victory in November.”

Running on a positive message of creating a Municipal broadband for cheaper faster internet that will give residents more choices, reducing the Municipal tax burden and expanding Municipal services and recreation programs, Joshi won almost all the Township’s 78 voting districts. Before

Joshi had received the backing of the Middlesex County Democratic Committee, and with it nearly every name party politician in the state. On Tuesday night, incumbent Mayor Tom Lankey – who earlier today pulled petitions – showed up at Joshi’s victory party.
