SAM JOSHI TO RUN FOR MAYOR OF EDISON, NJ

Top community leaders attend the event after the Democratic leadership endorses the 31-year-old candidate for the primary on June 8

Sam Joshi, the first South Asian to be Vice President of Edison City council and Councilman,has announced his campaign as candidate of Mayor for Edison, New Jersey. The announcement was made at an event attended by about 100 elite guests from high-ranking public officials and local community persons.

After receiving an unprecedented endorsement from top party officials, including New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy, Senator Bob Menendez, Congressman Frank Pallone, Assemblyman Raj Mukherjee, Mayors of Metuchen Jonathan Busch, Carteret Dan Rieman and East Brunswick Brad Cohen; Senator Patrick Diegnan, Councilwoman Stephanie Kim, Piscataway; Joyce Ship Freeman, Edison; and Councilman Ajay Patil, Edison; Education Board member Shivi Prasad Madhukar and top community leaders from Edison, Sam Joshi looked elated as he acknowledged the support.

A young man at 31, Sam was born and brought up in Edison and received his education in local schools. Determined to be a public servant, Sam started early and has gained an unmatched knowledge and understanding of the administration while working in Edison township. He looked jubilant and upbeat as one leader after the other, endorsed him from the podium at Mirage banquet hall in Edison.

Sam Joshi thanked the community for the support. He expressed his gratitude to Mayor Tom Lankey. Sam introduced his team members Nish Patel, John Poyner and Margo Harris. He assured the community of eliminating racism from Edison and to bring the community together.

Amongst community leaders present were Satish Mehtani, Dr Budh Sharma, Praful Vaid, Gary Pasricha, Dr Nimisha Shukla, Dr Raj Pandya, Seema Singh, Goldy Batra, Chandrakant Patel, Mahesh Shah, Manher Shah, Dipak Shah, Dhiren Amin, Rati Patel, Bhagvat Patel, Bimal Joshi, Khadag Singh, Arthur Kapoor, Colonel Tavathia, Lav Patel, Popatlal. Other highly respected community leaders who sent their confirmation of support included Raj Vakharia, Hardeep Singh Goldy, Vijay Marupaka, Kamal Arora, Harman Goldy.

Meanwhile, Congressman Andy Kim, who represents New Jersey’s 3rd Congressional district, has also endorsed Sam Joshi for Mayor in Edison’s upcoming June 8th democratic primary.  Congressman Kim joins his House colleagues Frank Pallone and Bonnie Watson Coleman and Senators Menendez and Booker in endorsing Joshi for Mayor.”Sam Joshi is the kind of leader that Edison, and New Jersey needs to build a brighter, more inclusive future, and I am proud to endorse him for Mayor,” stated Kim.  “His deep roots in his community and dedication to standing up for working families will lead to a government that works for all New Jerseyans.” Congressman Kim serves on the House Armed Services Committee, the House Foreign Affairs Committee and the House Small Business Committee.  He is also a member of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus as well as the Congressional Korea Caucus.
