The farmers stated that the agitation is a response to internet shut down around protest sites and the Union Budget 2021 ignoring the farmers.

On Monday, protesting farmers announced a nationwide agitation on February 6 when they would block all national and state highways for three hours. This announcement comes barely a week after the violence in Delhi on India’s 72nd Republic Day.

According to the news agency ANI, farmer leader Balbir Singh Rajewal of Bhartiya Kisan Union (R) said: “There will be a country-wide agitation on February 6. We will block roads between 12 pm and 3 pm.” The announcement was made during a press conference at the Singhu border.

The farmers stated that the agitation is announced as a response to internet shutdowns, water and power supply curtailed, and mobile toilet blocks being removed from the protest sites. They have also alleged that the farmers have been “ignored” in the Union Budget 2021.

Rajewal told reporters that the modalities of the roadblock will be unanimously decided after talking with various unions, including those protesting at the Ghazipur border site.  Ghazipur protest site is the new focal point after it witnessed heightened restrictions on Monday even as it continues to aggrieve Delhi, Noida, and Ghaziabad commuters.

An umbrella body of farmers, the Samkyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) claimed that the Twitter handles of Kisan Ekta Morcha and a user named “Tractor2Twitter” have been restricted. According to various media reports, Swaraj Abhiyan leader Yogendra Yadav alleged that the action against the Twitter handles was carried out at the “request of government authorities.” He also stated that the accounts of some private individuals, who have been extremely vocal against the movement have also been restricted.
