Makers of The Kerala Story 2 have made big changes to the film after orders from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The movie got a U/A 16+ rating, but only after 16 edits to tone down strong scenes. It is set to hit cinemas on February 27, 2026.
The CBFC asked to cut intimate and violent parts by half. Kissing scenes lost 7 seconds, and rape scenes were shortened by 20 seconds. Other changes include trimming a slap on a woman by 2 seconds and a head-hit sequence. A bulldozer demolition scene was also modified, along with three dialogues and one muted word.
The board added rules for a longer disclaimer. It must stay on screen for 2-3 minutes with a voice-over, saying the story is based on true events. Makers gave full script, proof documents on a pen drive, and consent for child actors. The final length is 2 hours, 11 minutes, and 24 seconds.
Trouble brews in court too. Kerala High Court will screen the film in Kochi before deciding on a ban plea. A petitioner says it stereotypes Kerala and hurts the state’s image, even though events happen mostly outside.
The first Kerala Story released in 2023 won a National Award but sparked fights over its theme of forced conversions. This sequel, by Vipul Amrutlal Shah, faces the same heat. Producers pulled the teaser after court orders.
