Aamir Khan Productions has locked the release of its highly anticipated period drama Lahore 1947 for August 13, 2026, positioning the film as a centrepiece of Independence Day week in theatres. The announcement, made well over a year in advance, signals the studio’s confidence in the project as a major event film tied to the Partition‑era narrative.

Lahore 1947 marks the first collaboration between actor Sunny Deol, director Rajkumar Santoshi, and producer Aamir Khan, bringing together three of Hindi cinema’s most recognisable names. The film is being described as a poignant period drama set against the turbulent backdrop of 1947, a year that reshaped the subcontinent and continues to resonate in popular memory.

The cast includes Sunny Deol, veteran actor Shabana Azmi, Preity Zinta, and Karan Deol, with music by AR Rahman and lyrics by Javed Akhtar. Aamir Khan, speaking about the project, noted that the script was one of the late Dharmendra’s favourites, adding an emotional layer to the production’s legacy.

The timing of the reveal also dovetails with Sunny Deol’s current box‑office momentum: his war film Border 2, released on January 23, has already crossed ₹300 crore domestically and is on track to rank among the highest‑grossing Hindi films of 2026. With Lahore 1947, the actor is set to pivot from battlefield heroics to a more intimate, Partition‑era character study, further broadening his late‑career repertoire.
