Sunny Deol’s war epic Border 2 has cemented its status as one of 2026’s biggest blockbusters, crossing the ₹300‑crore net mark in India by its 14th day of release, according to trade estimates. The Anurag Singh‑directed sequel to JP Dutta’s 1997 classic has also surged past ₹440 crore in worldwide gross collections, underscoring the enduring pull of large‑scale, patriotic action dramas at the box office.
Released on January 23, the film opened to around ₹30 crore on Day 1 and quickly escalated, crossing ₹100 crore domestically in three days and ₹250 crore by the end of its first week. Its steady weekday holds and strong holiday‑driven weekends, including Republic Day, have allowed it to outpace several high‑budget tentpoles that released earlier this year. Trade analysts describe the film’s run as unusually consistent, with minimal front‑loading and sustained audience interest even in the second fortnight.
Starring Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh and Ahan Shetty, Border 2 has been credited with reinforcing Deol’s comeback phase, following the historic success of Gadar 2. The film’s success has also highlighted the commercial viability of legacy‑driven, India‑centric war narratives when mounted on a grand scale and backed by robust marketing.
