Dhanush and Kriti Sanon’s romantic drama Tere Ishk Mein has surged past Rs 33 crore in domestic box office collections after just two days, marking a strong comeback for the genre. The film, released on November 28, opened with Rs 16-16.5 crore on Friday and added Rs 17 crore on Saturday, showing upward momentum amid positive word-of-mouth. This two-day total is eyeing Shahid Kapoor’s Deva benchmark at Rs 55.8 crore.
Directed by Aanand L Rai, the reunion with Dhanush from Raanjhanaa fame has fueled nostalgia and curiosity, driving the film’s second-biggest romantic opener this year after Saiyaara. Backed by T-Series and Colour Yellow Productions, with AR Rahman’s music and Irshad Kamil’s lyrics, it centers on Mukti (Kriti Sanon), who falls for rebellious Shankar (Dhanush), only for heartbreak to spark his vengeful rage against “entire Delhi.” The intense narrative has pulled crowds back to theaters post-pandemic romantic lull.
Trade experts note Tere Ishk Mein beat Day 1 numbers of Jolly LLB (Rs 12 crore), Sitaare Zameen Par (Rs 10.7 crore), and recent De De Pyaar De 2, cementing Dhanush’s biggest Bollywood opener. Producers Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Aanand L Rai, and Himanshu Sharma celebrate as weekend footfalls dominate over competitors like Masti 2 and 120 Bahadur. If Sunday sustains this pace, a Rs 50 crore three-day total looms large.
