When the movie ‘Mahavatar Narsimha’ released it had little to no hype behind it and was a slow starter at the box office. However, the directorial venture of filmmaker Ashwin Kumar has etched its name in India film industry’s history as it crossed the Rs 250 crore mark on its 53rd day at the big screens.
The film had collected Rs 11 lakh on its 50th day and saw a more than 100 % jump on 51st day to collect Rs 26 lakh and on 52nd day the collection jumped by more than 60 % to earn Rs 43 lakh taking the overall collection of the film to Rs 249.95 crore. Then finally on its 53rd day this Monday, on September 15th, the film collected Rs 6 lakhs taking its overall collection to Rs 250.01 crore.
The movie released on July 25th, just a week after Mohit Suri’s Saiyara which became a generational hit in itself surprising everyone. The movie despite heavy competition from movie projects like Rajinikanth’s Coolie, Hrithik Roshan, Kiara Advani and Jr NTR’s War 2 and even with Lokah- Chapter 1- Chandra which is in its third week and is going really strong.
‘Mahavatar Narsimha’ was released in multiple languages such as Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam. But the main boost to the movie’s collection was provided by the Hindi version which collected Rs 187.53 crore in 53 days and has become the 50th highest grossing film of all time in Hindi cinema.
On the other hand, the Kannada version has contributed Rs 9.87 crore, Telugu version has contributed the second highest Rs 49.14 crore, Tamil version has collected at Rs 2.91 crore and Malayalam version with the lowest at Rs 56 lakh.
