GST 2.0 brings Festive Cheers to Amazon India

As the Central Government has introduced the new reforms for the goods and services tax (GST) which has shaken up the market. To support the government, one of the biggest e-commerce companies, Amazon India has stated that they welcome the move to reduce the GST rates for most consumer daily products and has agreed to update their system as per the new rates.

In their media statement, the e-commerce giant welcomed the move stating that this would make the upcoming festive season for both the sellers and customers. The company stated that they are updating their systems as per the revised rates to ensure smooth transition.

“We welcome the Government’s move to reduce GST across a host of categories starting September 22, 2025. This will make the upcoming festive season more exciting for lakhs of sellers and crores of customers on the millions of items available on Amazon.in,” the company said in their statement.

“To ensure seamless compliance, we are proactively updating our systems with the revised GST codes, enabling our sellers to smoothly transition to the new tax structure and to be able to pass on the benefits to customers in accordance with government regulations,” Amazon’s statement added.

Nirmala Sitharaman, the Finance Minister of India, after the announcement of the new GST reforms pointed out that the companies should be looking to take immediate steps to update their systems as per the new rates introduced through GST 2.0. The minister also warned the companies that the government would be looking thoroughly on the integration of the reforms and will make sure that the GST benefits are passed on to the customers.
