Indian shooters have made the whole nation proud as they have swept the junior event at the Asian Shooting Championship this Monday, on August 25th. Two-time Olympic medallist, Manu Bhaker finished fourth in the Women’s 25 metre pistol competition. In the same competition, her fellow Indian counterpart, Esha Singh finished sixth in the eight-women final.
Manu Bhaker, in the competition, had shot 25 points while Esha Singh finished with 18 points. Bhaker was just four points away from claiming the medal as Thu Vinh Trinh won the bronze medal with 29 points. Esha however, had topped the women’s 25m pistol qualifications, she had finished ahead of Bhaker and the two Chinese medallists of the competition Xiao and Zhang.
On the other hand, other shooters from India in the junior category thoroughly dominated the 25m pistol women junior final. Payal Khatri claimed the gold medal with a total of 36, Naamya Kapoor won the silver medal with a total of 30 while Tejaswani bagged bronze with a total of 27 to sweep off the podium.
With a stellar performance like this, the Indian side won the team silver medal with a total aggregated score of 1700. They finished just behind Korea who claimed the gold medal while the host Kazakhstan raked in the bronze medal in the tournament. The silver and bronze medalists Naamya and Tejaswini were leading and ended the qualifications at the one and two spots, while the gold medalist Payal entered the junior final in sixth place.
On the other hand, the trio of Bhaker, Esha and Simranpreet Kaur Brar ended the competition at the third spot in the team category and won the bronze medal with an aggregate score of 1749. China secured the gold medal in the tournament while South Korea bagged the silver medal.
